Pinterest in libraries

22Jul12

Read Cynthia Dudenhoffer’s Pinterest article in the June 2012 issue of College & Research Libraries News (vol. 73 no. 6 328-332).  I thought it was very interesting.

Pinterest seems like a great way for the library, especially a smaller one, to easily and cheaply add content to their web presence and communicate simple info about books.  For example, she is using Pinterest to tell about new acquisitions, instead of sending out a boring email list that nobody reads.  You can see the new book  list here, and the new DVD list here .

Pinterest also seems like a good way to get pictures into the classroom.  My wife teaches English at the University and has done class lessons and assignments involving image analysis.  Seems like image-based class presentations and student projects might go much smoother and nicer using Pinterest.

Reading this article has made me interested in setting up my own Pinterest account.
